Zips is currently seeking an Accounting Manager to join our accounting team. This role will oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, assist in ensuring a timely and successful month end close process, and help the company remain compliant with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The ideal candidate will have experience in ASC 842 (Leases), ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition), and strong knowledge of GAAP-based financial reporting. Experience working in a multi-site retail environment is highly preferred. As an Accounting Manager, you will support Zips’ growth strategy by supervising multiple accounting staff and ensuring the timely and accurate completion of their procedures. The effective and efficient completion of these procedures will lead to timely and accurate financial reports being delivered to company leadership.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the general accounting functions, including, but not limited to accounts receivable and general ledger.
- Help the Controller assess and continuously improve accounting practices and procedures.
- Assist in the development of internal controls and work effectively with team for implementation of related processes
- Develop, coach, and train the accounting staff by managing performance, setting goals (responsible for target dates for month-end close) and training the staff to be more effective and efficient.
- Be the lead and provide information to external auditors during the annual financial audit.
- Be very knowledgeable in sales and use tax, ASC 842, and ASC 606
- Review and sign off on all balance sheet reconciliations by 10th business day of each month.
- Ensure timely and accurate journal entries are approved and signed off on.
- Assist in conducting operational data analysis and report tracking/generation.
- Collaborate with other finance and accounting team members, as well as field personnel, to best support the operations of the Company
- Initiate and/or complete additional job duties that may be required due to the company’s rapid growth.
Qualifications
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Master’s a plus)
- CPA a plus
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including working with large data sets
- Experience using Avalara/FinQuery (or a similar lease software), QuickBooks and Microsoft Dynamics/Business Central accounting software is a plus
- Experience preparing financial packages for senior management and financial/lending institutions
