*This position is a remote role and requires a quiet work environment. The scheduled will be Monday – Friday from 8:00am-4:30pm Eastern Standard Time (EST)

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review encounters submitted by the providers for correct coding review (CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, modifiers) and/or assign CPT/HCPCS/ICD-10 codes for E&Ms and procedures as appropriate and as need on encounters not coded by the providers
  • Provide coding and billing education to providers and staff
  • Assist Billing Team Lead and Billing Manager with quality control reviews as needed
  • Keep up to date on coding standards and unique payor policies and procedures
  • Post/drop charges while also ensuring insurance being billed is active/eligible and entered under correct packages in Athena
  • Assist in working up front claim holds & clearinghouse rejections
  • Assist in answering billing/coding related questions from the denial management team.
  • Work assigned ‘FRONTENDBILLING’ tasks as needed
  • Assist office/clinical teams as well as other RCM teams with questions on claims and/or patient accounts
  • Provides excellent customer service to employees, vendors, contractors, and guests with general questions
  • Maintains an approachable and appropriate attitude when interacting with all levels of personnel in a rapidly changing environment
  • Supports the vision and culture of the organization. Demonstrates personal commitment through active involvement in the performance improvement process.
  • Adhere to the Employee Handbook and Policies and Procedures
  • All other duties assigned including duties performed for affiliates, assigns, lessees, contractors or other third parties
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively and tactfully with all levels of employees, management staff, patients, vendors and the general public
  • Strong computer and phone skills, including Microsoft Office Suite experience
  • Responds timely to requests, emails, voicemails, etc.
  • Ability to handle multiple simultaneous tasks effectively and efficiently while maintaining a professional, courteous manner
  • High integrity, including maintenance of confidential information
  • Regular and reliable attendance
  • Exercises professional judgment and demonstrates good problem-resolution skills
  • Eagerness and ability to work independently as well as part of a team with flexibility and willingness to learn and take initiative on variety of tasks and projects

Education and Experience:

  • Must have high school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Two years’ relevant work experience in medical billing, preferred
  • Pain management experience a plus
  • Knowledge of insurance plans and their rules
  • Basic CPT and ICD-10 coding knowledge
  • Working knowledge of EMR and/or billing systems, athenahealth preferred
  • Must have an up-to-date certification through AAPC or AHIMA  *(may consider non-certified candidate with relevant pain management experience)

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands of this position will include sitting and standing with occasional light to medium lifting. Ability to help lift patients and transport in wheelchair from clinic to parking lot.
