Job Duties and Responsibilities

Cook Responsibilities

  • Plan daily cooking schedule to meet deadlines; follow standardized recipes
  • Direct the work of assistants and aides in a professional manner
  • Prepare and serve meals per menus, physician orders, resident preferences and therapeutic diet spreadsheet
  • Ensure food is served at proper temperatures; record temperatures
  • Make proper food substitutions within food groups as directed
  • Clean, sanitize and cover kitchen equipment; prepare for the following day’s menu


Cook Qualifications

  • Completion of culinary school
  • Able to read and write, follow recipes and use measurements; English proficient
  • Basic experience in cooking and understand the fundamentals of therapeutic dietsĀ 
  • Ability to plan, organize and meet servicing deadlines
  • Complete CPR certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral health de-escalation program
  • Minimum 2 years as a cook in a nursing home or hospital setting preferred
