The Director of FSQA supports Café Valley by providing the necessary leadership, planning, direction, organization, and control to ensure food safety and food quality.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the management of the electronic Quality Assurance inspection system
  • Interacts with production to assist in root cause analysis and corrective actions with food manufacturing processes
  • Performs routine Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)/Food Safety audits in production and warehouses areas and initiates corrective actions
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of all Food Safety Plans
  • Be available to work overtime per departmental needs, off shifts and weekends
  • Ability to climb up and down ladders and traverse walkways.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Manages a group of technicians that cover all production shifts. Responsible for hiring, evaluating, and developing FSQA Technicians
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, and revising food safety and quality assurance programs
  • Ensures that the organizations programs and procedures meet or exceeds the GFSI scheme
  • Develops and maintains calibration, validation, and verification programs
  • Reviews testing results and releases quarantined raw materials and outgoing finished products
  • Reviews, revises, and develops SOPs for laboratory methods and manufacturing quality testing procedures
  • Coordinates and assists with monthly, annual, and new employee training to include Plant Safety, Food Safety, Food Quality and GMPs
  • Coordinates corrective actions from third party audits and inspections and document actions taken
  • Coordinates corrective actions and root cause analysis of customer complaint logs
  • Directs microbiological laboratory testing and reporting
  • Assumes responsibility for being the main contact for annual audits from third-party companies and customers
  • Manages customer complaints and composes appropriate responses
  • Participates as an active member of Food Safety Committee
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field
  • At least 10 or more years working in the food industry, bakery experience is a plus
  • PCQI qualified
  • HACCP Certified
  • Experience in a GFSI facility
  • Successful completed GFSI level audits
  • Managed teams of people working across multiple shifts.
  • Experience with FSMA/ FDA audits
  • Managed Environmental Monitoring Program
  • Experience in large scale food manufacturing

Qualifications Desired:

  • Experienced with Preserved Standard of Identities such as Kosher, GMO etc.
  • Experience with Statistical Process Control analysis in food manufacturing environment
  • Red Zone or other Electronic Data Platform
  • Extensive Food and pathogen microbiology experience
  • Supply Chain Preventative Controls
  • Finished Product and ingredient level Trace and Recall knowledge
  • Bi-lingual English and Spanish
