The Director of Nursing provides clinical leadership and oversight to ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care and the overall excellence of services provided by the agency. This role is responsible for guiding clinical operations, supporting the training and supervision of direct care staff, and maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

The Director of Nursing maintains an active clinical presence through direct patient care and supervisory visits as needed, while also serving as a mentor and clinical resource to the care team. Working collaboratively with agency leadership, this individual plays a key role in advancing BrightStar Care’s commitment to delivering a higher standard of premium, person-centered care across the full continuum of services—from companion care to skilled nursing services.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordination of care for the client, identification of all clients’ needs through the assessment process, and implementation of the plan of care and supervisory process.  
  • Provide hands on patient care – conducting initial assessments, reassessments, performing infusions etc.  You may fill in if other team members call out for their shift. 
  • Effectively communicates with families, community partners and other health care providers to ensure adequacy of services provided and supervision of staff.  
  • Reviews clinical and progress notes and summaries of care. 
  • Compliance/Promotion of the standards of quality set forth by BrightStar Care® and the Joint Commission.  
  • Compiling and maintaining data/files for Joint Commission surveys.  Act as the primary point of contact for your office during Joint Commission surveys. 
  • Oversees the maintenance of client clinical records, statistics, reports, and records for purposes of evaluation and reporting of organization activities.  
  • Responsible for evaluation and approval of monthly audits of client files, using the company provided audit forms. 
  • Assists in the development of organization goals. Develops, recommends, and administers agency policies and procedures.  
  • Ongoing assessment, skill, and competency review of the care staff to ensure quality care and high level of performance.  
  • Supervises, educates, and coaches other nursing personnel/care-giving staff.  Conducts annual performance reviews for nursing staff. 
  • Plans and implements in-service and training programs.  
  • Responsible for ensuring nurse/clinical oversight by delivering clinical orientation to all new hires and ensure all six company required competency tests are completed.    
  • Stays informed about changes in the field of nursing and home health care. Shares information with appropriate organization personnel.  

Qualifications

EDUCATION 

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred; Associate’s degree in nursing or equivalent industry experience required. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in state for which care is being provided. 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. 
  • Minimum of six (6) years of clinical experience required. 
  • Minimum of two (2) years leading a team of clinicians to include RNs and LPNs experience required. Preferably, in home healthcare. 
  • Strong understanding of federal and state home health regulations and Nurse Practice Act.  Joint Commission experience preferred.
