Nilsen Eye Care (NEC) is a fast-growing, two-location private Optometry practice, with over 25 years of service in the Richmond area.With the motto of “See the Difference Caring Makes”, we are dedicated to caring for the overall health of our patients through comprehensive vision and preventative medical eye care.  We want every patient to achieve their best visual outcome and to trust us to do a great deal more than just provide the best contact lenses and eyewear.  We are looking for a Director of Practice Operations who brings that same level of integrity and commitment to NEC, along with expert operational skills, financial acumen and management skills.  We have proven the scalability of our model through the successful acquisition and growth of our second location, which has tripled its production in three years. We believe that meaningful work should also be rewarding and fun.    

The Director of Practice Operations will participate with the owners in implementing the strategic direction and vision of the practice.  This position provides management direction over two locations, our practice manager, RCM manager, front desk, optical and clinic leads which collectively, is approximately 50 employees.  We also employ 10 Doctors of Optometry and a financial manager/ controller.  

Job Duties and Responsibilities

* Strategic Planning: Implement strategic business plans and goals that align with the organization’s overall vision.  Understand our competitive edge and add new services such as low vision, laser assisted eye procedures, myopia control and more.  Innovate and explore other opportunities such as offering audiology services and growth via start-up or acquisition.

* Patient Experience: We want to make Chick-Fil-A and Disney jealous of us.  Ritz Carlton too. Why not!  Our no-wait intake and patient-centric business model is our competitive edge.NEC maintains strong KPI’s and has grown organically more than 10% every year for over 25 years.  Our wish is to now expertly implement new technologies to provide patients with an interactive online experience, but not at the expense of good old fashioned customer service.  That includes answering phone calls, minimal wait times, working in emergency visits and having appointments for annual exams available within days of anyone reaching out to us.

* Optical Sales Oversight: Work closely with optical sales managers, ensuring that overall performance meets or exceeds expectations.  

* Financial Oversight: Monitor and analyze financial and RCM performance, implementing strategies to achieve revenue and profitability targets, strategic business planning, RCM, capital planning, and revenue maximization. Develop and manage budgets for each location, working collaboratively with our controller.  

* Talent Development: Mentor a diverse leadership team, providing them with the tools, resources and authority needed to succeed.  Maintain a continuous focus on talent recruitment, management and organizational development.  

* Operational Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations across multiple sites. Work collaboratively with our practice manager, who has 10+ years of Nilsen Eye Care experience and the ability to provide you with very granular level insight regarding each department’s SOP’s and development opportunities.  Ensure appropriate systems are in place to support HR, facilities and IT.  

* Physician Engagement: Foster strong relationships with optometrists and leadership to ensure that our practice remains responsive to market trends and stays focused on smart growth and clinical excellence.  

* Staff Management: Recruit, train and manage site managers and staff.Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing professional development.  

* Technology Management: Oversee the implementation and maintenance of technology systems and ensure that they are effectively used across all locations.

* Compliance: Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and industry standards, including OSHA, HIPAA and state specific optometry regulations.  

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Healthcare Management, or a related field, Masters in Healthcare Administration a plus.  

Experience:

  • Minimum of five years of progressive management experience gained within a medical practice (optometry a plus).
  • Demonstrated success in leading and growing a strong physician organization and its infrastructure.
  • Experience with all aspects of financial management including budgeting, business planning, RCM, capital planning, and revenue maximization.
  • Strong analytical and strategic planning skills, plus experience in program and service development, business development and new site development.
  • Familiarity with healthcare information systems, regulatory compliance regulations, and business operations for physician groups.
  • Proven ability to drive a consensus process to effect organizational change.
