We are seeking a motivated individual to join our Engineering & Reliability team at our Gaston, SC facility. The ideal candidate for the Electrical and Instrumentation Designer role will be driven to achieve results, energized by technical challenges, and possess excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The Electrical and Instrumentation Designer will be reportable to the Mechanical Integrity Manager and have responsibilities for the following tasks: 

  • Apply engineering principles to design, construct, operate, and maintain industrial plant systems, including Electrical Power and Instrumentation Systems.
  • Drive projects from concept to completion, performing all aspects of project engineering and design.
  • Create and modify drawings using Bentley MicroStation, including:
    • Process & Instrumentation Diagrams
    • Elementary Diagrams
    • Power Plans
    • Single Line Diagrams
  • Select and size components for electrical power, control, and instrumentation systems.
  • Prepare detailed specifications for procurement and construction, including:
    • Equipment Specifications
    • Bills of Material
    • Data Sheets
  • Provide project control tools, such as:
    • Scopes of Work
    • Labor & Material Cost Estimates
    • Construction & Engineering Schedules
    • Change Orders
    • Progress Assessments
  • Work independently on unusual and complex problems with minimal supervision.
  • Perform field walk-downs to verify as-installed conditions and prepare accurate as-built drawings.
  • Collaborate with vendors to stay current on emerging technologies.

Qualifications

Required  

  • Associate’s Degree OR 10 years’ experience as an electrical/instrumentation designer
  • Experience in low-voltage electrical design (up to 1000 VAC)
  • Ability to quickly develop proficiency in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Bentley MicroStation, and tsaADVET (Falcon)
  • Knowledge or experience in construction, engineering, or facilities management
  • Working knowledge of National Electric Code (NFPA 70) and National Electric Safety Code
  • Proven track record of working safely, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and promoting a safety first culture
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and deliver results with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication, listening, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing environments and priorities
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime, weekends, and travel

Preferred 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience with multi-discipline projects, DeviceNet, and Delta V Distributed Control Systems
