The insurance verification specialist is responsible for verifying patient insurance coverage to ensure necessary procedures are covered by an individual’s health care provider. The position requires an extensive amount of time on the phone with insurance payers.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

· Make outbound calls to Insurance Payers to obtain patient benefits
· Process documents based on department guidelines in accordance with standards and performance indicators
· Maintains all patient confidentiality
· Responsible for entering patient benefit information into the system and verifying the existing information is accurate
· Update patient information demographics and running eligibility
· Outbound calls to patients
· All other duties assigned including duties performed for affiliates, assigns, lessees, contractors or other third parties

Qualifications

· Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively and tactfully with all levels of employees, management staff, patients, vendors and the general public
· Strong computer and phone skills, including Microsoft Office Suite experience
· Responds timely to requests, emails, voicemails, etc.
· Ability to handle multiple simultaneous tasks effectively and efficiently while maintaining a professional, courteous manner
· High integrity, including maintenance of confidential information
· Regular and reliable attendance
· Exercises professional judgment and demonstrates good problem-resolution skills
· Eagerness and ability to work independently as well as part of a team with flexibility and willingness to learn and take initiative on variety of tasks and projects
· Data entry skills
· Ability to follow instructions and resolve problems independently?
· Adaptable to changing priorities as needed and to manage multiple priorities concurrently

Education and Experience:
· Must have high school diploma or general education degree (GED)
· 1-3 years’ experience in a health plan, facility, healthcare provider office, or pharmaceutical industry, preferred
· Working knowledge of reimbursement (i.e. benefit investigation, prior authorization, pre-certification, letters of medical necessity)
· Knowledge of Medical Terminology
· Understanding of Health Plan Medical Policies and Prior Authorization Criteria
· Knowledge of HCPCS, CPT, and ICD-10 coding

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands of this position will include sitting and standing with occasional light to medium lifting. Ability to help lift patients and transport in wheelchair from clinic to parking lot. An employee must meet these requirements to successfully perform the essential duties of this job. Reasonable accommodation will be made in accordance with ADA rules and regulations.
