Job Duties and Responsibilities

Medical Assistant responsibilities include:

  • Review and update patient records prior to appointments to determine needed services
  • Maintain exam rooms; clean rooms between patient exams; ensure necessary supplies are stocked
  • Prepare patient for visit and alert physician when patient is ready to be seen
  • Assist patients in re-scheduling or scheduling follow-up appointments 
  • Provide initial medical screening; greet patients and direct to exam room
  • Take vitals and basic medical history and accurately document in medical chart
  • Assist physician or physician assistant during patient exam
  • Facilitate communication between provider(s) and patient as needed, including translation when needed
  • Perform general clerical duties including but not limited to answering phones, photocopies, faxing, typing, completing forms, etc. 
  • Provide administrative back-up support for MD, PA, DOO & MAS as assigned; accept floating assignments as needed
  • Maintain workstation, according to protocols; perform routine quality check of equipment
  • Perform EKGs and act as a backup for lab tech as directed by superiors
  • Performs all duties in support of successful EHR/EPM implementation


Medical Assistant skills & qualifications include: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certificate for Medical Assistant preferred / board eligible acceptable
  • Two or more years of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant
  • Current, valid CPR certification; current CPR, OSHA certification
  • Fluency in Spanish/English; other foreign languages welcomed; excellent verbal, written communication skills in both languages
  • Computer literate with proficiency in electronic medical records and phone skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills; excellent time management skills; ability to multitask and prioritize 
  • Service-oriented with a high degree of diplomacy and tactfulness; community service experience a plus
  • Experience working in a small setting highly desirable
  • Ambitious, analytical; customer-oriented; detail-oriented; professional; excellent communication skills
  • Availability to work Saturdays and evenings
  • Superb knowledge of Universal Precautions, demonstrating professionalism at all times
  • Understands HIPAA standards and displays a high level of discretion
