Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists physical therapists in providing physical therapy treatments and procedures.
- Instructs, motivates, and assists patients to learn and improve functional activities.
- Observes patients during treatments and compiles and evaluates data on patient responses to treatments and progress and reports findings to physical therapist.
- Measures patient’s range-of-joint motion, length and girth of body parts, and vital signs to determine effects of specific treatments or to assist Physical Therapist to compile data for patient evaluations.
- Gives orientation to new physical therapist assistants and directs and gives instructions to physical therapy techs.
- Monitors treatments administered by physical therapy aides.
- Performs clerical duties such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering telephone, taking messages, and filling out forms.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Associate’s degree from a Physical Therapist Assistant program. A minimum of one year of experience as a physical therapist assistant is preferred.
LICENSURE
Must have and maintain a current license to practice as a physical therapist assistant issued by the Executive Council of Physical and Occupational Therapy Examiners. Must have current American Heart Association, Basic Cardiac Life Support and Health Care Provider card.
