The Safety Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to support the safety function with administrative and safety job duties, and own in ensuring that the company is complying and adhering to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines to reduce work-related injuries.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Consistent and dependable attendance.
- Ability to work with or around food allergens of all types.
- Ability to work weekends and flexible schedules as business needs demand.
- Will need to be able to work around food allergens: milk, soy, eggs, and tree nuts.
- Ability to work in confined spaces. (Spiral, oven area, etc)
- Must be able to wear/utilize personal protective equipment.
- Conduct safety observation reports on a regular basis
- Educate employees on safety standards and expectations as well as safe machine operations through new hire orientation, safety meetings, and huddles
- Provide recommendations for improving safety in the workplace
- Assist with investigating incidents that occur onsite, identify possible causes of the accident and potential corrective actions
- Analyze each employee position and the tasks associated to identify and document job hazards and make recommendations on required PPE or suggested hazard controls
- Maintain inventory of safety department equipment and supplies including PPE
- Assist in implementing safety programs including LOTO, PPE, BBP, drug and alcohol testing, hearing conservation, etc.
- Participate in safety committees and Code Medical
- Maintain documentation of the company’s safety procedures, safety data sheets (SDS), safety training, incidents, and related events
- Help manage weekly safety audits, tracking “fails” and closing the loop with corrective actions
- Enter and track data on a spreadsheet
- Keep safety bulletin board updated
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
- Direct hands-on safety experience with a comprehension knowledge of safety concepts
- Safety program development and administration preferred
- 2+ years safety experience; manufacturing preferred
- 2+ years safety training
- Experience with spreadsheets
Language Skills:
- Must have ability to read, write and understand English
- Must be able to understand reports and correspondence
- Must have the ability to speak effectively before groups
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
Mathematical Skills:
- The position must be capable of performing all types of business-related mathematics.
Reasoning Ability:
- Advanced reasoning skills with the ability to deal with problems involving several variables in multiple types of situations required.
Computer Skills:
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and be willing to complete additional training.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- OSHA 10/30 Hour Training and OSHA 500 Hour Training preferred

- The environment is consistent with a manufacturing and office atmosphere. Heating is provided in the winter and basic cooling in the summer. Work may be required to be performed in other facilities.
