Job Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Assist the registered nurse (RN) in the practice of professional nursing by providing direct patient care to promote patient comfort and facilitate the performance of diagnostic and treatment procedures as outlined in the nursing care plan.
- Performs and records patient’s vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations, pulse oximetry and pain rating.
- Documents clinical data as assigned, in a computer or manual system.
- Performs clinical procedures, such as specimen collection, venipuncture, EKG, application of sequential compression sleeves, falls prevention, maintenance of skin integrity and capillary blood glucose monitoring under the direct supervision of the RN.
- Sets up for selected procedures and assists RNs accordingly.
- Assists patient with activities of daily living, such as feeding, bathing, and/or toileting.
- Orients patients to clinical environment. Assists patient with ambulation and all levels of mobilization under the direct supervision of the RN.
- Assist in pre- and post- procedures, such as patient transport, completion of preoperative checklist, and reception of patient from PACU/OR.
- Utilizes measures to ensure patient safety.
- Assist in emergency resuscitative procedures as directed by the RN in calling for additional support, obtaining necessary supplies and equipment as needed.
- Performs pertinent observations/specific treatments of procedures, as directed by the RN.
- Documents patient care delivered on appropriate flow sheets.
- Assist the RN in the collaborative plan for patient education and discharge, participating in patient/teaching activities.
- Maintains a safe, clean, and functional environment, including ensuring for the comfortable movement of the patient. Assist with room maintenance, such as bed stripping, and trash removal when necessary.
- Performs correct infection control techniques for patients under the direction of a RN and according to set procedures.
- Complies with established hospital personnel policies. Attends mandatory training sessions, staff meetings and town hall meetings. Completes all mandatory education requirements on time.
- Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
- Demonstrates behavior consistent with Atlas Healthcare Partners mission, vision, goals, objectives, and patient care philosophy.
- Reports actual and potential problems concerning patients, families, staff and other departments to the Registered Nurse. Responds to questions from patient, families, and significant others in a prompt, courteous, positive manner, referring them to appropriate personnel if necessary.
- Works cooperatively, communicates effectively and works in collaboration with all members of the healthcare team.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be entering their final semester of Associate or Baccalaureate RN program of an accredited School of Nursing
- Grade point average of 3.25 or above.
- Satisfactory nursing faculty recommendations.
- High School diploma or GED required
- BLS required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Other health-related work experience, if available.
