Your Role:

  • Support Telehealth Visits: Assist in setting up and managing virtual appointments between patients and providers, ensuring a smooth and efficient telehealth experience.
  • Patient Coordination: Document patient medical history, assist with pre-appointment screening, and communicate exam details to doctors in real time via Electronic Health Records (EHR).
  • Ophthalmic Testing and Documentation: Perform basic ocular screening, including visual acuity, tonometry, and automated keratometry, then accurately document findings in the EHR.
  • Technology Troubleshooting: Ensure patients are properly set up with telehealth technology, offering support during virtual visits and resolving any technical issues.
  • Assist with Clinical Procedures: Provide support for ophthalmic procedures, patient instructions, and follow-up communications with referring doctors and patients.

  • Perform basic ocular screening and patient history.
  • Assist in the efficient movement/flow of patients through sequence and evaluation.
  • Medically assist the doctor through the patient examination; take dictation from the doctor.
  • Document patient findings for the Doctor in HER.
  • Prepare examination rooms to provide all needed medications, forms, consents, and educational materials.
  • Coordinate special testing needs with technicians.
  • Accurately perform and document the following: Confrontation visual fields, Automated keratometry, Automated lensometry, Manual lensometry, Basic pupil evaluation –anterior chamber depth exam and basic slit lamp exam, Screening tonometry, Visual acuity distance and near, Assist Doctor with Schirmers, Basic fundus photography (Mac, Disc and Diabetic Series), Basic refraction.
  • Communicate all doctor instructions to patients and/or other doctors’ offices as directed; fax reports, letters, post op visits, etc., to referring doctors.
  • Maintain practice and patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Always exhibit professional demeanor while representing the practice.
  • Contact lens fitting and troubleshooting.
  • Help with medication and glasses prescriptions, minor procedures, and ophthalmic imaging.
  • Record patient histories and chief complaints.
  • Visual acuity, manual lensometry, refractometry, evaluation of extraocular muscles, affect pupillary defect, confrontation visual field, and angle assessment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) designation preferred
  • 1 to 3 years of ophthalmic clinical experience
  • Medical Assistant designation and/or Medical Scribe certification
  • Knowledge of ophthalmic terminology and equipment.
  • Strong clinical knowledge of essential workflows in an ophthalmic setting
