Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver therapeutic Neuro-Optometric treatment plans for patients in a variety of areas, including brain injury, sports advancement, computer-related stress syndrome, learning-related vision disorders, strabismus, and amblyopia. 
  • Develop individualized condition plans that target specific patient needs and goals through various exercises under the supervision of a behavioral optometrist. 
  • Teach patients and parents how to successfully perform treatment exercises and adjust them as needed to meet the patient’s level of success.
  • Make recommendations for changes in lifestyle and environment that could improve visual performance. 
  • Observe and document patient responses to therapy, identifying areas in the treatment plan that could benefit from adjustments. 
  • Conduct assessments of the function and processing of a patient’s visual system. 
  • Attend regular meetings with the team. 
  • Cross-train in other departments to understand the full operation and flow of the clinic. 
  • Engage in continuing education during and after on-the-job training. 
  • Contribute to the continued growth of the department. 
  • Maintain direct communication with patients regularly to check in and coordinate with any other caregivers/therapists and/or providers who are part of the patient’s treatment team.

Qualifications

  • AA or BA/BS desired 
  • Previous experience in vision therapy, occupational therapy, teaching, or other medical rehabilitation fields is not required, but would be valuable 
  • Must enjoy working with children; experience/knowledge with ADHD/Autism is helpful 
  • Must have compassion for those suffering from anxiety/depression 
  • Ability and eagerness to learn 
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented 
  • Strong communication skills 
  • A positive and engaging personality
